Large language models like ChatGPT have rapidly integrated into our daily lives, offering both excitement and practicality through their groundbreaking technological advancements. However, these advancements also bring about challenges in terms of data security.

The utilization of large language models such as ChatGPT raises concerns among companies due to the model's continuous training process, which relies on the data provided by users. Consequently, there is a possibility that this information may become accessible to the public. Open AI has explicitly cautioned that "any data that ChatGPT is exposed to, including user inputs and interactions, can potentially be stored and used to further train and improve the model." This underscores the importance of users being vigilant about data security. Open AI also emphasizes the responsibility of users in protecting their data from loss or unauthorized access.

Organizations are actively seeking measures to safeguard themselves against unintended data leaks, wherein sensitive information is inadvertently shared with language model services. Additionally, they aim to mitigate the risk of intellectual property exposure, where a language model could potentially reproduce copyrighted content from its training data.

ChatGPT Growth

Instances of companies, irrespective of their size or even government departments, scrambling to establish policies concerning the utilization of such tools have become increasingly prevalent. Through an anonymized survey conducted among our customer base, we have observed that 50% of the participants have employees who employ ChatGPT in their work environment. More specifically, within the dataset protected by the Add Value Machine (AVM) platform, one out of every ten company-issued machines has been used to access ChatGPT. Furthermore, we have noted that employees working for larger companies are more inclined to utilize ChatGPT, as evidenced by 97% of the larger accounts having employees who incorporate ChatGPT into their daily work routines.

Ensuring Data Monitoring and Security for ChatGPT: AVM’s Approach

At the core of the AVM platform lies a highly flexible policy infrastructure. While we offer a range of pre-configured policies to meet common data protection and regulatory needs, our policy templates are designed to be highly adaptable, allowing organizations to address evolving threats within their unique threat landscape. In simpler terms, our policies can be customized to tackle even the most novel challenges that arise. By default, we recognize and protect PCI, PII and common business key words and phrases. Customers have the choice to warn, block or anonymize data before it’s sent to the language model.
